Sun Blessed Farms Harvest Right Filter Cartridge and Oil Filtration Guide

Sun Blessed Farms presents an essential component for your Harvest Right freeze dryer – our easy-to-use, efficient filter cartridges. Designed to maintain the quality and longevity of your vacuum pump oil, these cartridges are a must-have for any freeze drying enthusiast.

First Use Instructions:

  • Carefully remove the filter cartridge from its packaging.

  • Grasp the top of the cartridge and align it with the cartridge holder in your Harvest Right filter.

  • Press the cartridge firmly into place to ensure a secure seal.

When to Replace the Cartridge:

  • Typically, after 15-20 uses, it’s time to replace the cartridge.

  • Replacement frequency may vary based on oil quality. Monitor the condition of your oil to determine if an earlier replacement is necessary.

Oil Filtration Steps:

  1. Drain the Oil: Open the oil reservoir drain valve on your vacuum pump, allowing the oil to flow into the oil filter. Tilt the rear of the vacuum pump slightly to ensure complete drainage.

  2. Filter the Oil: Allow the oil to fully pass through the filtration system.

  3. Separate Water from Oil: As part of the freeze-drying process, water accumulates in the oil. Post-filtration, water and oil will separate – water sinks, while oil stays on top.

  4. Discard the Water: Carefully pour off the oil, disposing of the water at the bottom. Important: Do not reintroduce water into the vacuum pump to avoid damage.

  5. Refill the Pump: Add the filtered (or new) oil back into your vacuum pump.

Determining Oil Cleanliness:

  • Ensure the oil is free from debris or particulates.

  • The oil should not appear milky or chalky.

  • Look for clarity in the oil; it can be yellow or amber but should be transparent.

  • Check that your vacuum pump achieves the appropriate pressure (mTorr) for freeze drying.

Knowing When to Replace the Filter:

  • The filter needs replacement if oil no longer drains through it, indicating debris buildup.

  • If the oil remains milky or contains debris post-filtration, it’s time for a new filter.
